Library Control

To manage your libraries, click on the “Browser Options” button represented by the flywheel. In Browser Options, you will see a library list. Click on a library to check if it needs any updates (represented by a red bubble) or to perform any actions on it.

Note: If you’re just starting to use the Smart Browser, please refer to the “Library Creation” article.

In the opened menu, you can:

  1. Create a new Library.
  2. Connect an existing library.
  3. Manage selected library. It opens a deeper menu with more functions for the selected library management
  4. Quick update. Do a quick update for the selected library
  5. Library information. Check the information on the selected library
  6. Remove selected library. Remove the selected library from the list without deleting any associated files.

 

2. Connect an existing library

When a library file (XML) was already created either on a personal computer or on a company server, you can connect to it:

Click on “Select Existing” to select a library file. All the information will be filled in automatically. After selecting the library file, the “Connect” button will light up.


3. Manage selected library

Opens a deeper menu with more functions for the selected library management. By default, the library information will be visible on the left and additional functions on the right.

Connected folders. Shows in which folder does Smart Browser search the libraries files:


Edit library information. Allows user to modify previously entered library information and to choose new library thumbnail:

Update library. Updates library and its components. Here you can run an update for the family thumbnails and update (or create new) 3D DFW files for the families in the library. Note: The red bubble on the Update button means the library file needs to be updated. The update notification is shown when families are added/removed/modified by hand in the folders belonging to the library.


Delete Backups. Shows the number of family backups present in library folders and the space they take. Delete those with one click.

 

Delete library. Delete the library or its components. You can delete either only the main library file or all other files associated with the library. Note: families will not be deleted with this function.

4. Quick update

The red bubble by the library's name means the library file needs to be updated. The update notification is shown when families are added/removed/modified by hand in the folders belonging to the library.

Note: To check whether the library needs to be updated, click on it in the Library Tree view.

You can either do a “Quick update” that will write new information about the families or go to “Manage selected library” and choose there option “Update library”, which has some advanced settings.


5. Library Information

Here you can find all the accessible information about the library. You can click “Back” to go to the previous menu or click on any other library to see its information.


6. Remove selected library

This function will remove the selected library from the list of your libraries. No files will be deleted during this procedure. The main library file (XML) will stay in its original location and can be later added to the library list by the “Connect an existing library” function.
